Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

1
Clinical Assessment

Differentiate between normal and abnormal perimenopausal transitions by analyzing clinical presentations and identifying key red flags that warrant further investigation or referral.

2
Patient Education

Develop effective communication strategies to address common misconceptions about perimenopause while providing evidence-based patient education.

3
Hormone Therapy

Distinguish between various hormone replacement therapy options and formulations, including bioidentical hormones, compounded preparations, and standard pharmaceutical combinations, to develop personalized treatment plans for patients in different stages of perimenopause and menopause.

4
Treatment Planning

Design comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans incorporating both hormonal and non-hormonal interventions, lifestyle modifications, and integrative approaches.

5
Neuroendocrinology

Analyze the interplay between fluctuating hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) and their effects on mood, cognition, and ADHD symptoms during perimenopause, integrating neuroendocrine and psychological concepts.

6
Mental Health

Evaluate and compare pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies—including SSRIs, stimulants, CBT, and lifestyle interventions—for managing mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD during perimenopause.

7
Trauma-Informed Care

Apply trauma-informed care principles in the clinical setting to enhance trust, safety, and outcomes for perimenopausal women experiencing mental health challenges, especially those with a history of childhood trauma.

8
Holistic Care

Design a holistic care plan for a woman in perimenopause presenting with overlapping symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, and cognitive decline, integrating hormonal, behavioral, cultural, and lifestyle considerations.

9
Cardiovascular Health

Differentiate between typical and atypical presentations of heart disease in women across different life stages (pregnancy through perimenopause), enabling you to recognize early warning signs.

10
Risk Assessment

Evaluate how allostatic load and chronic stress contribute to cardiovascular disease progression, incorporating this knowledge into comprehensive patient risk assessments.

11
Screening & Prevention

Analyze the interconnection between perimenopausal symptoms and cardiovascular risk factors, distinguishing between normal hormonal transitions and warning signs that require medical intervention, while designing appropriate screening and preventive strategies across the pregnancy-perimenopause continuum.

12
Differential Diagnosis

Differentiate between perimenopause symptoms and those related to specific conditions (postpartum, PCOS) to provide accurate assessment and appropriate referrals for patients experiencing overlapping symptoms.

13
Health Equity

Analyze the complex intersections between race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and perimenopausal experiences, recognizing how social determinants of health contribute to disparities in symptom presentation and treatment outcomes.

14
Access & Barriers

Evaluate the multifaceted barriers to healthcare access that affect perimenopausal women from diverse backgrounds, including insurance coverage, geographic location, language barriers, and digital literacy, to develop targeted solutions for your practice setting.

15
Equitable Care

Identify patterns of medical bias and symptom dismissal that disproportionately affect marginalized populations during perimenopause, and implement strategies to provide more equitable, culturally responsive care.

16
Cultural Humility

Design patient-centered communication approaches that empower perimenopausal women from diverse backgrounds, incorporating principles of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and shared decision-making to improve health outcomes.

17
Communication

Analyze the communication barriers and gaps in menopause education across healthcare settings, and synthesize effective questioning strategies to help patients recognize and articulate perimenopausal symptoms.

18
Motivational Interviewing

Apply motivational interviewing and therapeutic communication techniques to build trust, validate perimenopausal experiences, and empower clients in shared decision-making.

19
Referral Strategy

Integrate a coordinated referral strategy by identifying trusted local specialists (e.g., pelvic PTs, cardiologists, menopause experts), enhancing continuity of care for women navigating perimenopause.
